I was just sure I NEEDED a T210. However, while I was sure I needed/was destined to own one, and the guy who owns my flight school kept telling me he was sure I could get up to speed on a 210, he also kept telling me that I should look at a 182, or a T182, or a C206. I had simply previously scoffed at the 206 for its relatively slow speed, and the Cessna T182 or 182 for its lack of 6 seats. However, as the 210 market had essentially closed itself to me, I started researching the Turbo 182s. I could buy a well equipped one for less than half my initial budget, and while yes I would be giving up 30 knts, on a 4 hour trip, it only adds 40 minutes or so.
After some more research I discover quickly that they seem to be a little more evenly and accurately priced.
This sale was distinctly different than the 4 that proceeded it. There was no broker involved on this one. This was just me talking to the actual owner of the plane. His price was actually below what I thought the value should have been. It was located in LA, so I took a day off, and drove over to see it. It was in great shape. The avionics are there, it just needs a little interior rehab and a couple minor things. I offered $5k less than list. I did not ask for the massive discounts that I had with the 210s, as I felt this one was priced right to begin with. He countered with $4k less, we shook hands and had the beginings of a deal.
